The document explains how to install and setup the Lexan JMD Jet Ranger Body on the Hummingbird or Feda Micro RC Helicopter. The basic procedure can be followed for any of the Micro Helis.

After following the main instructions that came with the body kit for connecting the body halves, you need to connect the lower section in the same manner for this application (See Fig. 3) as in the main instruction sheet.  Note: Step 2 in the main instruction sheet shows drilling the landing gear strut holes. These 3/16” holes need to be moved. The front hole is ¼” back from the marked location. The rear location will be 3 ½” back from the forward hole. The holes should be 2 ¼” from side to side. This will locate the mechanics in the proper position. The opening on the bottom can be extended to the rear landing gear legs to aid in the installation and removal of the mechanics. When the body is connected all around and the seam is finished, proceed to the next step.

Drill two holes to clear the motor gear and the main shaft, and place the gearbox as shown, then trace around gearbox. After tracing the gearbox, you will remove this area to install the gearbox. Note: Be careful not to make the hole too big.

Place the gearbox in the fuselage and align it vertically & horizontally. (Tack if necessary.) When alignment is correct, bond with thick CA inside & out.
Cut an access hole in the opposite side of the tail for motor installation & removal. This hole will be covered by the tail fin.

Mechanics are installed from the bottom. Note: Small pieces of rubber tube are used for the body mounts. See Fig 2. Also note that where the body was cut to install the struts, it was taped back together with trim tape. A heat gun was used to heat and de-bond the landing skid from the strut. Remove the skid from the longer side and shorten the struts to match the shorter side. Reinstall the skid, and the heli will now sit level. This step is only for scale appearance.

All components in place ready for assembly. Try to keep all components in the forward position to help final balance. The aileron servo was flipped over & moved down for body clearance. Top of servo is flush with the radio box top. (See picture.)  A longer control rod was made with .045 wire. Note: The servo location tabs were removed for this operation.

Tail gear box with motor and gear installed. Mechanics installed. Note: A small piece of plastic was used to stabilize the upper section of the mechanics. (See Fig 1.)  Also note the hole for the aileron control rod.

FIG. 1 A plastic strap was added to support the top of the main shaft. This was not bonded. It was only flexed into place; however, bonding may be necessary.
FIG. 2 A small piece of rubber tube is bonded with silicone to the body to help support the mechanics.
