5mm MAIN SHAFT KIT

This main shaft kit is unique on the market. Many hours of research and development have gone into this product in an effort to give you, the consumer, the highest quality, best performing drive system upgrade for this already pleasing helicopter.

This kit differs from the stock drivetrain in a couple of key areas. First is the diameter of the shaft. The stock shaft is 4mm. Our kit uses a 5mm shaft. This is possible because of the 5mm bearings already installed in the factory bearing blocks. The stock shaft must be shimmed down to fit into the bearings. Our shaft slides directly through the stock bearings without the need for shims. Secondly, the stock shaft is spring steel. Our shaft is 416 hardened stainless.

The purpose of this upgrade kit is to address a couple of specific issues pertaining to stability as well as blade tracking, and lastly, durability. Once installed you will notice an immediate increase in stability as well as an improvement in cyclic response. Next you will notice that the tracking is not so prone to change. Also, in the event of a crash, our shaft is MUCH harder to bend. I have crash-tested this kit in every way imaginable and I have never bent a shaft!

The manufacturing process is time consuming and, therefore expensive. First, a stock rotor hub is center drilled on a special fixture to a specific diameter and a precise depth. Next, the main gear and bevel gears are opened up to the final diameter on a lathe using a two step process. First the gears are center drilled .003” undersize, then they are opened up to .003” oversize with a special ream to give them their final size. This is done to retain the integrity of each part as well as to ensure that each gear remains true. Next the holes in the gears and rotor hub are all hand chamfered and inspected for defects. Next, the shaft is made. We start with the highest grade stainless available. We use 416 hardened, center ground stainless. The stainless shafts are cut to a rough length, then mounted in a custom fixture for milling. First, the slots are milled using carbide end-mills at a controlled RPM. Next, each shaft is milled to a precise length. After the milling process, each shaft is inspected for straightness as well as any flaws in the milling. Once a shaft passes inspection, it is mounted on a lathe and each end is beveled. Finally, each shaft and rotor hub is hand assembled and checked for accuracy. We even take pride in our packaging. Each and every kit is hand packaged by myself and my family. It is important to us that we hand package each kit. This ensures that each kit is complete and each part is flawless. I think you will agree that this is arguably the finest drivetrain upgrade available for this particular helicopter.

One final tip is to try this kit in conjunction with our carbon fiber reinforced feather plate to maximize the stability and durability of your helicopter
